the government has announced plans to make it a legal obligation for social workers, teachers and councillors to report child abuse.
the churches' child protection advisory service has called for the proposed law to apply to churches.
"Bass, who is the chief executive of the Churches' Child Protection Advisory Service (CCPAS), welcomed the proposed measures and said there was a need for mandatory reporting in the UK, including for the Church.
"Far too often, abuse has not been reported and anything that could drive that change is to be welcomed," he said.
"This should not be about getting at over-worked social workers and police officers; this should really be about intent β why did somebody not report? And if it can be proven that they failed to report because they were protecting the reputation of the institution or individuals then clearly that tips into the criminal element."
Also, if you want to send Mr. Bass any information as to Watchtower child abuse policies and cover-ups:

Please ignore the above. His name is Frank Otuo, I have provided the link with the reference, or there is one at the top of the page.
Can anyone call tomorrow perhaps, find out what happened? Please?
(don't worry Splash, and no need to waste space apologising. I appreciate your enthusiasm.) :)

Expecting to be dissapointed, but is there anyone reading this that can at least contact the court, or drop in and find out the result?
This case is a potential game-changer, can you imagine the number of cases that could be brought against the Watchtower if Frank Otuo wins?..
blondie an hour ago:
"I think it will be more effective if the laws regarding child abuse are expanded and strengthened so that abuse in all religious organizations can be decreased."
Completely agree with you, Blondie.
In the UK at least, change may be just around the corner..

hey people, .
i am soon going into a kh for the first time and i could use some advice around etiquette etc.
i know next to nothing besides the fundamental beliefs of jws, i personally dont believe in any religion, and that stance isnt ever going to change, however i don't want to come across as rude or disrespectful.
Hi rathernotsay.
If you wanted to watch a documentary about life as a jw and the effects of it, this one by an exjw has received plenty of good feedback. Of course, there may be a good one elsewhere that is free.

Anyway, here's one recent example of some of the 'encouraging' statements that your kids hear at meetings..
